How to be a United States Citizen

There are many ways to be a US citizen. Following are the two common ways one can be US citizen.

1. Living in USA for 5 years as Permanent Resident.

2. Living in USA for 3 years as Permanent Resident if your spouse is a USA citizen.

3.The applicant has to have good moral character

4. The applicant can not involve in any serious crimes.

During this 5 years or 3 Years time one is not supposed to stay out of USA for more than 6 months as that will affect your required stay for USA citizenship process.

 One needs to have valid Identification card or Driving license, Social Security Card, Permanent Residency Card or Green Card.

As a fist step the applicant has to take finger print. The date and venue of finger print will be mailed to the applicant after the application is accepted.

When finger print is accepted the interview date is mailed to the applicant by mail. The date is given well ahead of the time of interview, so the applicant can take preparation. The interview officer lets him know if the applicant passed the test or not.

The applicant needs to learn the questions, mostly 100 questions and needs to take all the supporting documents, he or she is supposed to take with for the interview. Even though the letter tells what to take it is recommended to take things that might prove your legal status like tax document.

After interview the date of oath is given to him by mail. He needs to take the oath. Here the citizenship certificate is handed to him or her.
